eARC BOOK REVIEW...The Pulse (The Pulse Trilogy #1) by Shoshanna Evers

Title:  The Pulse (The Pulse Trilogy #1)
Author:  Shoshanna Evers
Publication Date: November 25th 2013 by Pocket Star
Goodreads URL: HERE
Plot:  It’s been one year since an electromagnetic pulse destroyed America’s infrastructure and took down the power grid, throwing the country into a new Dark Age. Emily Rosen lives in a military camp at Grand Central Station, where women act as the soldiers’ private harem, selling their bodies on the tracks for extra rations. Emily escapes Grand Central and goes on the run from the soldiers intent on killing her for the secret she’s discovered—America is rebuilding outside of New York City, and everything the city’s refugees have been told is a lie.

Christopher Mason, a convict who broke out of prison after the Pulse, finds Emily before the soldiers do. Mason’s survived on the streets of New York City this long by looking out only for himself—but there’s something about the beautiful young woman that makes her impossible to leave behind. Now Emily must convince this intimidating, magnetic stranger to be her protector and guide as they journey out of New York and into the unknown. For Mason’s protection, Emily barters the only thing anyone’s valued since the Pulse—her body. But sex with Mason can never be just currency—it’s pure passion, and everything she desires.

MY REVIEW:

The good: Has A LOT of erotic elements for all of you pervy readers! The story line was okay, the characters were all right (although they did bug me at times), and the pacing is decent.

The bad: I don't know what it is but I didn’t truly feel that there was substance to the plot NOR did I feel a connection to the characters entirely.

Maybe it's just me?

My thoughts: “The Pulse” had two things I was looking for recently in a book: erotica and post-apocalypse. BUT…

To be honest, I don’t know where I stand with this book. I think it has to do with the fact that since nothing like this has ever come to a reality that it’s hard to imagine. At the same time though, when I was forced to make grip of this world that the characters are living in, I could see a lot of the same dilemmas and struggles occurring if it did.

So first things first. If you ask me what I automatically think of when it comes to “The Pulse”, I think of: A convict and a nurse; eating rats, having lots and lots of unprotected sex, women controlled and bartered by a**wholes and a conspiracy theorist; cannibalism, death, and a radio. Heh? A radio you may ask? Well, you need to read to find out!

I’m now really curious as to where the author is going to go with this story since it is a trilogy. Book one was focused primarily on Mason and Emily while giving glimpses of Emily’s bunk buddy Jenna. But now it seems that Jenna will be having her own story as well in the follow up, “The Escape”. Hmmm…I can’t wait!

My Rating:

-Overall : 7
-Plot : 7
-Writing : 7
-Characters : 7
-Cover : 8
