Two damaged souls come together in another great read by Laura Kaye.

I was really surprised that Kaye had made her female heroine, Laney Summerlyn, almost completely blind but it was also refreshing for once.

And as for the ultra sexy male, Chrysander "Chrys" Notos, it was a typical characterization for me: beautiful godlike appearance and carries a tough and indifferent attitude even though he's tainted inside.

Over all though, the plot and pacing was nice and the meshing of Laney and Chrys' characters "worked" since Laney has a loving and accepting type of personality whereas Chrys "appears" to have this macho man-golden boy exterior but in the inside needs Laney's love and nurturing which is what he's been taught to fend against.

"South of Surrender" is a must read filled with forbidden love, angst, immortal "issues" and family, and ultimately forging your own destiny.
